Plans unplanned.

I have just begun my journey through The Golden Compass once again. Well, to be honest, I've just gotten to the first page. It's been a long, long while since the first time I picked it up and stuck my head in between the pages. The book actually belongs to my brother.

From a young age, he always had this great collection of books that had my sister and I loved to read from. It ranged from Sabriel sequels to Eragon, from Goosebumps to Animorphs, from Harry Potter to The Golden Compass; everything and anything cool, he had them all even before they got famous (turned into movies or TV series and such). Since I was the youngest one then, I had more of a girly collection while my sister had books which were more teenage-ish.

It was really encouraged in our family to read.

We had shelves and shelves of books. At times when I got a bit too carried away with reading and neglected my studies, which was so much often, the only thing that could make me stop reading was my dad saying "Abah bakar semua buku kau nanti kalau kau tak study (I'll burn your books if you don't study)." And just like that, I would drop everything and no, not stop, drop and roll, I would take my Bahasa Melayu book and study. Funny how I abhorred studying for Bahasa Melayu and English, but loved both subjects just the same.

Reading, to me, is like a getaway. You get to take a break from life and dive into a sea of fantastical wonders. What a way to describe it. But that's how I see it, reading.

What I know for sure is I haven't done enough.
